Coordinate Plane Pictures Make Plotting Fun!

Our coordinate plane pictures are an engaging way to give your students practice plotting points in all four quadrants. Students quickly know if they are on the right track, as the correct answers will form a mystery picture.

This resource includes the following worksheets:

  • Coordinate plane shark picture
  • Coordinate plane robot picture
  • Coordinate plane tree picture
  • Answer keys

With three different images to choose from, this coordinate plane pictures set works well as independent practice, in small groups, or as a fast-finisher or homework activity.

How to Introduce the Coordinate Plane

Students will need an understanding of basic coordinate plane concepts before being able to complete these pictures. Here is a list of terms and concepts you’ll want to ensure students know:

  • Coordinate Plane: A two-dimensional plane formed by the intersection of two perpendicular number lines.
  • Axes: The two number lines that intersect on the coordinate plane at a point called the origin. The x-axis is horizontal, and the y-axis is vertical.
  • Origin: The point at which the x and y axes intersect. Its coordinates are (0,0).
  • Quadrants: The four sections of the coordinate plane created by the axes. They are numbered counter-clockwise, beginning at the top right.
  • Ordered Pairs: Two numbers that together indicate a point’s location via the x and y axes on the coordinate plane.
  • Plot: To place an ordered pair on the coordinate plane.
