Guess the Weight: Estimating Mass with Customary Units Clip Cards!

This set of 24 clip cards has been created by an experienced math teacher for students to practice their knowledge and understanding of customary units of measurement for mass. Each clip card shows an object and then three different options for students to decide which weight measurement is best suited. For example, a picture of a car and then three weight options – 2 ounces, 2 pounds and 2 tons. Once students have decided where to put their peg, get them to provide you with an explanation with why they chose that measurement.

How to Use this Resource In the Classroom

Print resource on cardstock to ensure durability. Cut along the dotted lines to create activity cards. On the back of each card, draw a star behind the correct answer. Provide your students with the cards and a bucket of clothespins.

This set of clip cards can be used individually, or as a small group. Students are encouraged to to choose a card, identify the correct mass estimation and clip the matching response. Students can then explain their answers to the peers if working in small groups.
