Model decimals in various ways and use estimation skills to complete decimal calculations.
Estimating Decimals
Have your students been working on their estimation skills? Not only do students practice estimating with whole numbers, but with decimals as well. Teach Starter has created a resource for you to use with your students where they will improve their skills related to decimal estimation. The problems include models, rounding, addition, and subtraction.
The Daily Decimals task is broken into 5 sections, so that students can complete one section a day. There is a progress bar where students will color in the boxes as they complete sections and check their work.
An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
This file can be edited to include more complex numbers. If working on Daily Decimals in class, encourage early finishers to create more models for the decimal of the day or create as many equations with a solution of the daily decimal as they can since they should not be moving on to the next “day” on the worksheet.
This worksheet is already chunked into manageable portions for all students. The file can be edited to differentiate the complexity of the daily decimals assigned. Work one on one or in a small group. Provide examples of each model type (money, number line, base ten, etc.).

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.
To save paper, we suggest printing this 2-page worksheet double-sided.
Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
