Find your way through this set of math mazes by determining the addition or subtraction pattern in a sequence of decimal numbers.
Add and Subtract Decimals to Determine a Pattern
Are you looking for a fun math printable where your students will practice determining decimal patterns? Teach Starter has created a set of math mazes where students will determine the addition or subtraction pattern or the next value in a sequence of decimal numbers to the hundredths place.
With this download, you will receive 3 mazes of increasing complexity with keys provided (stars next to the title indicate difficulty level) and 1 blank maze for student creations.
- Level 1 (indicated by 1 star on either side of the title) involves solving 18 patterns with decimals to the tenths place to determine the next number in the sequence.
- Level 2 (indicated by 2 stars on either side of the title) involves solving 20 patterns with decimals to the tenths and hundredths place to determine the next number in the sequence.
- Level 3 (indicated by 3 stars on either side of the title) involves solving 22 more complex patterns with decimals to the tenths and hundredths place to determine the next number in the sequence.
Students can complete one of the differentiated mazes or complete multiple. Then, they can create their own using the template provided.
An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
If there are students who need a bit of a challenge, have students create their own maze and an answer key using the blank template provided. Give each student 2 copies of the provided template. On one of the copies they can create their maze by writing decimal patterns. On the other copy, they can color in the correct path so there is an answer key. Students can trade with a classmate and attempt to solve different mazes. Also encourage students to use larger numbers and take the decimal place value to the thousandths place to create more challenging patterns.
For students who need additional support, allow them to work individually or in a small group. Allow the use of a calculator. Eliminate the boxes on the maze that won’t be used.
