  • Choose a donut based on visuals and write about why it looks the best.
  • Think of the positive attributes of each donut.
  • Design your own donut.
  • Plan out three reasons why your donut is the best design.
  • Think of a compelling introduction and conclusion to your planning.
  • Write the final copy.
  • Persuasive writing checklist.

How to Differentiate this Activity

Differentiating this activity can accommodate your class’s various learning styles, abilities, and interests. Here are some suggestions for differentiating this persuasive writing activity.

  • You may like to use paper-based planning with some students. We have a range of persuasive writing templates that may work.
  • Vocabulary support: provide a list of relevant vocabulary words and phrases related to donuts, persuasive writing, and donut topping descriptions. This can help struggling writers with a base.
  • Allow kids to work in pairs or small groups to brainstorm and plan their persuasive text.
  • Provide an alternative topic for those who may not like donuts.
  • Offer optional extension activities for advanced students who finish early, such as comparing and contrasting different types of donuts or creating an ad campaign for the donuts they created.
