Practice long division with whole numbers and decimals with this differentiated activity.
Long Division with 2-Digit Divisors
Are you looking for a long division activity suitable for many levels? With this downloadable resource, students will have fun solving problems that involve dividing with 2-digit divisors. There are 3 different levels, each noted with a different color.
⭐ Red Set: 2 digit divisors, whole-number quotients, no remainders
⭐ Purple Set: 2 digit divisors, quotients may contain remainders
⭐ Green Set: 2 digit divisors, quotients may contain decimals
To play, hang up 10 pages per level. You can cut the cards apart and keep them in the same area if you wish. If only using one level, just hang those 10. If using all 3 levels, hang all 30. They should be hung randomly around the room, not in any specific order. Students will be given the color-coded recording sheet that aligns with the skill they need to practice. Students can start at any page that is their color and solve the problem on that page. Once they’ve solved the problem, they check all of the other pages to find a page with that quotient. If they find their quotient, they solve the problem on that new page. They continue solving and searching for their quotients until they are back at their original starting problem. This is a self-checking activity; if a student doesn’t find the quotient on any of their colored pages, then they know their answer is incorrect, and they can try to solve it again.
This activity aims to practice whole number division and attention to detail in an engaging way while getting up and moving.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.
If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:
🆘 Support Struggling Students
If there are students who need additional support, consider using the red version of this resource. This version includes only whole number quotients. Additionally, students can complete this activity with a partner.
➕ Challenge Fast Finishers
For students who need a challenge, use either the purple or green posters, depending on if you would like your students to work with whole numbers or decimals.
Easily Prepare This Resource for Your Students
