Design a Dot Day Alphabet Chart with a pair of fun “Finish the Drawing” worksheets.
Celebrate Creativity on International Dot Day!
Just imagine a world where a simple dot can spark unlimited creativity and where every stroke of a marker, paintbrush, or click of a mouse can transform into a masterpiece. This world arrives each year in September! International Dot Day, inspired by the beloved book “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds, is more than just a day. It’s a joyful celebration of courage, cooperation, and the tremendous potential of individual creativity.
Using Your ABCs of Dot Day Worksheets!
To complete your ABC Chart, do the following.
- Read aloud “The Dot” by Paul Reynolds, discussing how even the simplest drawings can become masterpieces with just a bit of imagination.
- Draw a dot on the board and invite students to help you make a list of things they could turn their dot into (ex., A doughnut, a pizza, a tire, etc.) and draw one of them.
- Provide students with the ABC chart template of your choice, and encourage them to turn each of the dots into an object that starts with the letter given. We have included two templates for younger and older students. The only difference between the two is the amount of space provided for drawing.
- Once students have completed their alphabet charts, they will need to color them and mount them on black construction paper to display them for a fun art gallery effect. You could even deliver them to a preschool or kindergarten class for students to use as letter-recognition anchor charts!
