How to Build a Dog-Themed Classroom
Creating a dog-themed classroom can be a fun and engaging way to make the learning environment more welcoming and enjoyable for your students. Here are some ideas from our Teach Starter Teacher Team to help you design a dog-themed classroom:
- Create a Welcoming Entrance — Come up with a dog-related welcome to hang outside your classroom door, such as “Welcome to Our Pawsitively Awesome Classroom!” or “Welcome to Our Doggone Great Classroom!”. You could even add paw print stickers on the floor leading into the classroom for an extra touch!
- Bulletin Board Displays — Create interactive displays like “Pawsitively Great Work” where you can showcase student work. Or how about a “Top Dog of the Week/Month” where you can highlight your Student of the Week or Month? And finally, why not create a”Be a Leader of the Pack” leadership display using our Leadership Qualities – Poster Pack? Each month, hang up student pictures underneath each poster showcasing those who have displayed that specific quality throughout the month. It is never too early to start working on those leadership skills!
- Paw Print Floor Decals — Looking for a classroom management hack that fits with your dog themed classroom?Place paw print shaped floor decals along walkways or where students line up at the door. Then, when it comes time to line up, each student can stand in a paw.
- Make a Fun Reading Space — Set up a cozy reading corner with oversized dog beds and a few stuffed animal dogs. Make a sign using our Bulletin Board Display included in the pack and name your space the “Doghouse Reading Nook.” Your students will beg to find the perfect dog bed to cozy up in and read a good book.
Remember to tailor these ideas to your grade level and teaching style. The goal is to make the classroom a comfortable and enjoyable space for both learning and fun!
