A Set of 2nd Grade Revising and Editing Passages

Editing practice is an essential way to build students’ foundational language skills. It promotes careful attention to detail and reinforces key aspects of sentence structure, spelling, punctuation and grammar.

This set of 2nd-grade revising and editing passages has been designed to help your students strengthen these key skills through engaging, age-appropriate practice. The resource includes 20 short editing passages, each written about familiar topics that make grammar practice more relevant. 2nd Grade Revising and Editing Passages: What to Expect

Each slide contains a short passage, an image and a set of instructions. The instructions inform students of the mistakes they need to find and fix within the passage.

Following each slide is an answer slide where all of the required changes are highlighted in a different color from the rest of the text.

This versatile slide deck can be used in multiple ways to support your teaching objectives.

  • Whole-Class Activity – Display an editing passage as a class exercise. Read through it together, encouraging students to identify and correct the errors as a group.
  • Small Group Work – Use the passages in targeted small groups, where students can work together or receive guided support to find and correct mistakes.
  • Independent Practice – Assign particular passages for students to edit on their own, giving them the chance to practice at a comfortable pace.
