Blank Equivalent Fraction Chart

Understanding how fractions relate to one another is crucial when developing an understanding of values less than 1. Students work to understand that as the denominator in a fraction gets bigger, the size of the piece gets smaller. They also learn that putting together unit fractions creates a larger fraction, which can also be the same value as a fraction with a different denominator.

Teach Starter has a template ready for you to use when exploring the relationship between fractions and determining equivalencies in your classroom. The template provides space for students to represent

  • A whole
  • Halves
  • Thirds
  • Fourths
  • Fifths
  • Sixths
  • Eighths
  • Tenths
  • Twelfths

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by encouraging them to focus on a few rows at a time. Students may work on creating fraction strips that show halves, fourths, and eighths rather than the entire page.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create a list of 10 equivalent fractions found in their chart.
