🏠 Fact Families (Addition and Subtraction) Houses Digital Game🏠

This engaging interactive activity will help your students understand fact families and discover the relationship between addition and subtraction. This 40-slide deck contains a variety of tasks looking at fact families using a visualization of a ‘fact family house’. This digital resource is a must-have when teaching your students about addition and subtraction fact families!

Progress through the different difficulty levels and adjust to fit the needs of your students.  Students can practice filling in just the houses to understand the relationship between the numbers.  Then, students can apply this knowledge to solve the addition and subtraction problems using their fact families.  You can create their own number problems as needed to help extend or provide more practice for your students.

Through this activity, students will show their ability to extend and apply knowledge of addition and subtraction facts and develop efficient mental strategies for computation.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to individual student work time, use this activity to enhance learning through guided maths groups, whole class lessons, or homework assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners and ELL/ESL students, we have a few suggestions for keeping students on track with these concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Use only the one-digit number slides first to help your students learn the relationship between numbers with addition and subtraction. Also, spend more time practicing filling in the numbers in the houses for fact families on slides 10-15. You can create your own using slides 16-18 as you feel would best suit your learners.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

The slides progress through their own level of difficulty. Additional slides can be created using the slide template to extend this resource as needed. You can add more difficulty by using only two-digit numbers.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.
