A set of 12 cards to practice identifying fictional genres.
A fun activity to practice identifying fictional genres based on their characteristics.
Print out the genre cards on cardstock and cut them out. Store them in a resealable bag to be used again and again.
Students will read the book blurb on each card and identify the genre based on the characteristics of the book. This works great as a reading center activity or it can also be used as a scoot activity for the whole class to play. Simply hang the cards around the room and have the students rotate through the cards in pairs, writing down the genre in the appropriate square on their recording sheet.
The genres used in the activity include:
- realistic fiction
- historical fiction
- fantasy
- science fiction
- mystery
- traditional literature.
A recording sheet and an answer key are both included in the download.
