Fire Prevention? Writing Center? We Can Do That…

October is coming, meaning Fire Prevention Week will arrive in a few short weeks. Before long, you’ll be prepping your classroom to teach your students about firefighters, fire trucks, and all things fire-related. Why not take your instruction one step further and blend Fire Prevention Week and writing centers?

This grouping of writing prompt worksheets for first and second-graders is perfect for adding to your writing center rotation during the week. You could combine these worksheets with our Fire Prevention word wall for an even better writing experience.

Fire safety activities don’t have to be complicated. Print this set of fire prevention writing prompts and your writing center is stocked for the whole week, maybe even longer!

Writing prompts for second grade and under include:

  • How to Prevent Fires
  • All About Fire Drills
  • Stop, Drop, and Roll
  • My House is on Fire!
  • What Do Firefighters Do?
  • What Not to Do in a Fire

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

  • Lesson warm-up
  • Lesson wrap-up
  • Writing Centers
  • Small Group Instruction
  • Vocabulary Building Exercises

🚀Engage your fast finishers by having them draw and write to show what they know about firefighters and fire safety.

🆘Differentiate for your struggling writers by providing them with an additional list of words to pull from or write them a list of sentence stems to guide their writing.
