What Are the Friends of 10?
Perhaps you’re not familiar with these friendly math pairs? Friends of 10 is the name we use for the various pairs of numbers that add up to 10.
These ‘friends’ are made up of whole numbers from 0 all the way up to 10, and the list of 11 sums that are considered ‘friends’ includes the following:
- 0 + 10 = 10
- 1 + 9 = 10
- 2 + 8 = 10
- 3 + 7 = 10
- 4 + 6 = 10
- 5 + 5 = 10
- 6 + 4 = 10
- 7 + 3 = 10
- 8 + 2 = 10
- 9 + 1 = 10
- 10 + 0 = 10
Perhaps you call these number pairs or number partners? Whatever the name, learning which sums can be paired together to make 10 can help students with both addition and subtraction!
