Government Types Activity for Middle School

You can skip the types of government worksheets and try on a new type of government activity with your middle schoolers this week! This teacher-created activity is the perfect social studies resource to use around Election Day or Presidents’ Day to teach students about the different types of government around the world.

What are the Government Types?

With this activity, students will learn about different types of government, including:

  • monarchy
  • anarchy
  • democracy
  • theocracy
  • fascism
  • dictatorship
  • totalitarianism
  • oligarchy
  • tyranny
  • aristocracy.

Then, students will sort these governments into the categories of rule by one, rule by few, and rule by many.

Use the drop-down version to choose between the color or black and white version.
