In this thrilling writing activity, students will step into the shoes of a real estate agent with a twist – their mission is to sell a haunted house! Through imaginative, persuasive, and descriptive writing, they’ll breathe life (or perhaps “unlife”) into this spooky home, catching the interest of potential buyers with tales of creaky floors, ghostly apparitions, and enchanting descriptions of the macabre environment in and around the house.

This resource download provides your students with planning and writing prompts to guide them through creating a haunted house advertisement. This activity requires students to

  1. Assume the role of a real estate agent and determine the best way to describe the haunted house to make it appealing to customers.
  2. Sketch and draw a picture to show potential buyers the excellent things found outside their haunted house.
  3. Create interior floor plans for their haunted house to show buyers the different rooms and features of the home.
  4. Write descriptive paragraphs about the interior and exterior of the home.
  5. Write persuasively to highlight particular features of the home and encourage buyers to buy the house.
  6. Create a flyer-style advertisement or newspaper ad as a final product demonstrating their creative and persuasive writing skills.
