Balance Mass Knowledge : Heavy and Light Worksheets

Are you exploring the comparison of mass in objects and the vocabulary heavier and lighter with your early years mathematicians? This set of 5 mass worksheets is the perfect way for your students to practice their comparing of mass in objects knowledge. Children will be asked to complete the following tasks:

  • Worksheet 1 – cut and paste items into two columns – heavy and light.
  • Worksheet 2 – cut out pictures and compare their estimated mass by gluing pairs of objects onto an image of balance scale.
  • Worksheet 3 – which is a heavier worksheet – students color the object they think is the heaviest out of pairs of objects.
  • Worksheet 4 – which is lighter worksheet – students color the object they think is the lightest out of pairs of objects.
  • Worksheet 5 – color objects that are heavy blue and those that are comparably light red out of a collection of objects.

You may like to provide your students with all of the worksheets if they are capable of a variety of objects around comparing mass. Alternatively, you may like to just provide one worksheet at a time based on your lesson content and use these worksheets as check-in points.
