A Homophones Worksheet for 3rd and 4th Grade

Homophones (words that sound the same but have different meanings and spellings) are some of the trickiest words for our students to spell correctly. This is because they must know which spelling to use in which situation!

If you’re tired of seeing homophones spelled incorrectly in your students’ writing, then you’re in luck!

This cloze worksheet has been designed by our expert teachers to help your students familiarize themselves with common homophones such as where and we’re, to and too, you’re and your, their and they’re, and four and for. Cloze activities widen students’ vocabulary while promoting reading for meaning and understanding words in context.

Students are required to select the correct homophone from the word bank to place into the passage about a bushfire. An answer sheet is also available in the download.

Multiple Applications for This Homophones Worksheet

In addition to independent student work time, why not use this worksheet as a:

  • Whole-class activity (via smartboard)
  • Targeted small group activity
  • Homework activity

Choose the delivery method that best suits your students and their learning needs. Some students may be perfectly capable of completing the task independently, while others may benefit from reading the passage in a small group with targeted adult support.
