Celebrate Veterans Day at school and encourage creativity with a How to Draw a Soldier directed drawing activity.
Let’s Learn How to Draw a Soldier! Directive Drawing
Want to do something fun and creative with your students on Veterans Day? How about a directed drawing activity to learn about and celebrate America’s military servicemembers? Your students are sure to love it!
This simple and easy-to-follow “How to Draw a Soldier” directed drawing worksheet provides step-by-step visual instructions so your students can create stunning drawings of soldiers in no time. After they’re finished, inspire them to write about the brave contributions of these American heroes to their community.
Here’s a tip! We’ve created this one so that your students can decide whether they want to draw a male soldier or a female soldier. It’s as simple as adding a ponytail or bun to their drawing.
More Ways to Use a Drawing of a Soldier
The beautiful thing about directed drawing is that you can use the artwork produced in many ways. You don’t have to stay within the traditional ‘draw a picture and put it on the bulletin board’ box. Try some of these ideas instead!
- Create a Veterans Day Card: Turn the soldier drawing into a heartfelt card to thank veterans for their service. Deliver the cards to local veterans associations.
- Write a Gratitude Letter: Write a letter expressing appreciation to veterans and attach the drawing.
- Paint a Background: Use another sheet of paper and color or paint a background of a battlefield, sunset, etc. Then, cut out your student’s soldier drawings and paste them into the scene to add some artistic flair!
- Collaborative Soldier Drawing Mural: Have students draw, color, and cut out their soldier drawings. Glue all your student drawings onto a large sheet of butcher paper to create a larger mural. Consider arranging them so they look like a crowd, with the soldiers laid out in staggered rows. Finish off the mural by having your students write special messages around the edges to create a frame.
