More Ways to Use a Drawing of a Turkey
The beautiful thing about directed drawing is that you can use the artwork produced in many ways. You don’t have to stay within the traditional ‘draw a picture and put it on the bulletin board’ box. Try some of these ideas instead!
- Create a Thanksgiving Day Card: Turn the turkey drawing into a heartfelt card for students to share with family members or friends.
- Write a Persuasive Letter: Write a letter from the turkey persuading humans not to eat turkey for Thanksgiving.
- Paint a Background: Use another sheet of paper and color or paint a background of a sunset, forest, etc. Then, cut out your student’s turkey drawings and paste them into the scene to illustrate the turkey’s walk to freedom.
- Collaborative Turkey Drawing Mural: Have students draw, color, and cut out their turkey drawings. Glue all your student drawings onto a large sheet of butcher paper to create a larger mural. Consider arranging them so they look like a crowd, with the turkeys laid out in staggered rows. Finish off the mural by having your students write quotes in speech bubbles convincing people to each chicken instead of turkey this year.
