This digital procedural writing activity poses the following real-life scenario:
The local pizza shop has just hired some new staff, and they need some help teaching these new employees how to make pizza. Use your procedural writing skills to break the process down into simple steps for the new staff to follow.
This interactive procedural writing activity contains the following slides:
- Pizza Brainstorm – Use the boxes to brainstorm ideas by typing the basic steps of making a pizza.
- Pizza Ingredients – Move the ingredients that are needed to make a pizza from the selection provided.
- Steps for Making Pizza – Move the pizza-making images to correctly order the steps in the table provided.
- Instructions for Steps 1 to 6 – Using the image on each slide as a guide, type a simple description of each step in the box provided.
- Procedure Draft – Use the text structure scaffold on the slide to type a draft procedure for making pizza.
- How to Make Pizza – Type a completed procedure entitled “How to Make Pizza” in the blank slide.
- Checklist – Use the checklist to ensure that the completed text contains all the necessary features.
Differentiate This Procedural Writing Activity
While this resource makes a great whole-class modeled writing activity, it can be used in other ways, too!
If you have a group of more confident writers in your class, they might prefer working on this activity in pairs, or even independently. Provide them with a device and download a copy of the resource for them to access and complete in their own time. Just be sure their typing skills are advanced enough for them to complete the task in a timely manner!
