A scaffolded writing task for students to complete when learning about the informative text type.

Use this resource as a scaffolded writing activity when teaching your students about informative writing.

Informative texts, which are sometimes called explanatory texts, describe how and why something works, or how and why an event occurs. This informative prompt guides students through researching, planning, and writing an informative text called How Does the Water Cycle Work?

The students will need to:

  • research the topic
  • record bullet point notes on the template provided
  • write up their text in complete sentences on the scaffold provided.

A diagram of the process has been included to help students better understand the process and to stimulate some initial ideas for their writing.
