Section 1 – Students will write 1 rhyme per word pair.

Section 2 – Students will write 2 rhymes per word.

Section 3 – Students will write as many rhyming words as possible per word.

Section 4 – Students will complete a poem with rhyming words.

Section 5 – Students will write their own rhyming poem.

Rhyming Words Worksheet: Scaffolding and Extension Tips

In addition to individual student work time, use this rhyming worksheet as a:

  • Reading center activity
  • Post-lesson exit ticket
  • Homework assignment
  • Whole-class review (via smartboard)

Got fast finishers? Students who need a challenge can write additional rhyming poems.

Students who need extra support can work as partners or in small groups. You can also project the worksheet onto the board and go around in a circle so students can collaborate on rhyming words.

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource

To save paper, we suggest printing this 2-page worksheet double-sided.

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on cardstock and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a dry-erase marker, then erase and reuse.

Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their reading notebooks or on their mini-whiteboards.
