Subtraction with the Jump Strategy – Hop into Math Games!

Get ready to excite your students with a new math game to help them practice one of their favorite math strategies– the jump strategy!

The jump strategy for subtraction is a math strategy that helps students break down subtraction problems into smaller, more manageable steps. This strategy involves “jumping” backward on a number line to subtract.

Practice Using Subtraction Strategies for Multi-Digit Numbers

This game allows students to practice using the jump strategy for solving subtraction problems. This is ideal to use in small groups of 4 during math centers.

This fun game includes:

  • an instruction card
  • question and answer cards
  • a number line template for students to show their work.

Print the game instructions and question-and-answer cards on cardstock. Print one number line template for each player. To save paper, place the number lines in a dry-erase pocket.
