Word Search — Kindness Style

Are you teaching kindness vocabulary words in your social awareness lesson? Add a word search to your lesson planning — kindness-style! It’s important that our students understand the meaning of kindness and recognize its importance in daily life, and arming them with the words they need to use to describe being kind can help students do just that.

Packed with important kindness words, including caring, feelings, positivity and more, this printable word search activity was created by the Teach Starter teacher team to add to your social emotional teaching toolkit. We’ve included words that are appropriate for students in 2nd grade through 4th.

Created in Google Slides, this activity includes the word search and an answer key, and it can be used digitally or in print form.

Kind Words to Pair With Your Word Search

Are you looking for some kind words you can teach your students to share when a classmate is having a tough day? Sometimes our students are aware that their peers are struggling, and they want to help, but they may not have the right words at the ready. Explicitly teaching them what to say creates a kind word bank of sorts that they can call upon when the time arises to show their kindness skills.

Why not brainstorm kind words with your class, challenging students to recall acts of kindness they have witnessed or experienced and sharing the words that made them feel better in the situation?

Our teacher team has a few that we suggest sharing with your class!

  • “You’re doing a great job!”
  • “You’re really good at [insert talent or activity].”
  • “I appreciate you.”
  • “Thank you for being my friend.”
  • “I believe in you!”
  • “I appreciate your help.”
  • “I am glad you are in my class.”
  • “I’m glad we’re friends.”
  • “You’re a great listener.”
  • “I’m proud of you!”
  • “You’re an amazing person.”
  • “You’re so creative!”
  • “You’re a good teammate.”
  • “You have a really nice smile.”
  • “You’re so thoughtful.”
  • “I’m lucky to have you as a friend.”
