Ways to Use a Spinner in Class
Our team of teachers created this resource, and have come up with a series of practical applications for your Shape Spinner!
- Warm-Up Activities: At the start of your math class, use the spinner to randomly select students to share a fun fact about the shape the arrow lands on! How many edges? What is something in the environment that looks like that shape?
- Group Formation: Divide students into groups using a spinner. Assign each group a shape, and spin the spinner to determine which students belong to each group. This method adds an element of randomness and can encourage diverse groupings. Too many shapes for the number of groups you need? Cover some with paper to eliminate some shapes, or shade two adjacent wedges to group some shapes together.
- Timed Activities: Set up a spinner with different time intervals (e.g., 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes). Spin the spinner to determine the duration of an activity or task. It adds an element of excitement and unpredictability to time-based activities.
