Practice applying letter-sound correspondence with a set of 20 BINGO game boards and cards.
Practice Beginning Sounds with Letter Sound Bingo
Use this printable Letter sound Bingo set in your reading center, as a guided reading activity, or a whole class exercise (see below) to practice applying beginning sounds.
Students will need BINGO counters to keep track of the words on their cards.
The students practice their phonological awareness skills by listening to the letters on the calling cards and covering the corresponding initial letter sound picture if it appears on their BINGO board.
More Initial Sounds Activities
In addition to 3-in-a-row, opt to play by covering the game boards in the following patterns:
- 4 Corners
- Plus sign
- Blackout
- X out
True or False Gallery Walk
For this game, you will need to print an extra bingo card you will cut up. Cut out all the images as cards and number them so that you are able to match the students’ answer sheets with the cards. To play, mix the cards up and hang them around the room in sets of matching initial letters and pictures, and unmatching initial letters and pictures. Working either alone or in pairs, assign students to a starting point and have them rotate through the cards (on your signal), recording on a numbered sheet a paper whether the sets are a match (True) or a mismatch (false) until they have completed each one.
Group Lesson
Using your smartboard or another projection device, present a bingo card to your class or small group. Then shuffle the letter cards and flip one at a time to reveal a letter. Use our Random Name Generator widget to call on a student to find a word on the card that begins with the letter card pulled.
