Explore the school library with a scavenger hunt!

Head Off on a Scavenger Hunt, Library Style

Scavenger hunts are a fun way to get your students up and moving during the day, and our teacher team designed this printable with elementary and middle school teachers in mind. The items students need to find should all be right in your school library.

Your students will search for specific things, like a book published before 1980 (ancient, right?!) and a book that won the Caldecott Medal. This would also work great at the beginning of the school year on a school tour or as a team-building activity.

Whether you are using the printable as a brain break, indoor recess activity or to celebrate something specific (Library Month?!), students LOVE scavenger hunts!

What Is a Library Scavenger Hunt?

If this is a new concept for you, you’re in luck. The Teach Starter team has everything you need to know about this library-themed adventure!

A library scavenger hunt is a game or activity that involves kids searching for specific items, information or clues within a library setting. It could be the elementary or middle school library or even the library in your community.

The hunt is a fun and interactive way to explore and familiarize your class with the resources and services offered by a library. That makes them perfect for a first day of school or first week of school activity, especially for students who are new to the school building.

Scavenger hunts help introduce new users to the layout and various sections of the library. By searching for specific items or locations, your students will become familiar with where different materials are located so they can get comfortable with using this wonderful school resource.
