Lines of Symmetry Digital Activities

Delight your learners with this fun and engaging series of interactive activities focusing on lines of symmetry for 2D shapes!

To play, students work through the following activities, either individually on their devices, or as a while group on your smartboard:

  • Activity 1: students are to type in the number of lines of symmetry each shape has.
  • Activity 2: students are to sort the shapes into categories based on the number of lines of symmetry.
  • Activity 3: students are to type in the number of sides, vertices, and lines of symmetry.
  • Activity 4: students are to type yes or no if the line of symmetry on each shape is correct or not.
  • Activity 5: drag and drop shapes that have a correct line of symmetry into the box.

Through this activity, students will identify line-symmetric figures and draw lines of symmetry using digital tools.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

This maths activity was developed by real teachers to support the learning of your young students! Here are some teacher tips for scaffolding and extending students who are working below or above level:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

  • Enable the student to work with a peer or group.
  • Allow student to work on the easier shapes and activities.
  • Allow the student to see a model of how to correctly work on the activity and provide some answers before giving them a turn.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

  • Project the activity on the board and ask students to draw additional shapes with the correct line of symmetry.
  • Ask students to come up with more shapes they can work on the activity with.
  • Ask the whole class to follow along with the new shapes in their maths book or on a piece of paper.

🧑‍🏫 Group Learning

Project the slides onto a screen and work through them as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks or mini whiteboards.
