Engage kindergarten and first-grade students in identifying community helpers and the tools they use with a matching activity.
Kindergarten and First Grade Community Helpers
Introduce your students to the many men and women in our communities who help us daily. Learning about the community is a large component of primary-grade Social Studies instruction. We’ve been working hard to develop some amazing community helper worksheets and activities to help your young learners get to know the people we depend on the most.
These community helper matching cards engage your young learners in identifying different community helpers and the tools they use to provide services. Students are given picture cards showing individual helpers to match with images of the tools that the helper uses.
An answer key is included with your download to make grading fast and easy!
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
For Struggling Students
- Discuss the images, watch videos, or read informational books about the helpers and tools seen on the worksheets before the lesson. Talk about what each picture shows and what the helper does.
- Provide a community helper anchor chart or reference to other community helpers’ activities completed before completion.
