Classroom Activities Using MLK’s “I Have a Dream” Speech

Martin Luther King Jr.‘s “I Have a Dream” speech is an iconic and powerful message about civil rights and racial equality. There are many ways you can celebrate and honor this speech in the classroom:

  • Read the speech aloud in class and discuss its significance and impact.
  • Have students create their own dream or vision for a better world and share their ideas with the class.
  • Celebrate MLK Day by having a parade celebrating his life and the influence of his speech. You can have your own peace parade by having students make signs, flags, or banners to carry throughout the school or community.
  • Invite a guest speaker or historian to come and speak to the class about the importance of the “I Have a Dream” speech.
  • Have students create artwork or craft projects inspired by the themes and ideas in the speech.

By engaging students in these activities, you can help them understand the importance of this speech and its role in shaping our history and society.
