“Invest” in This Money Place Value Chart!
Looking for a way to teach decimal place value that will “cash” your students’ attention? This money place value chart activity set is it! The resource includes three versions of a place value chart/mat, each with designated spots for the hundreds, tens, ones, tenths, hundredths, and thousandths. Two versions are in color, while one is in black and white, offering flexibility for different classroom needs. In addition, a printable sheet with images of money—such as hundred dollar bills, tens, ones, dimes, and pennies—lets students physically place the “money” into the chart to represent decimals, making the concept both fun and hands-on.

How to Use This Decimal Place Value Chart for Money
This decimal place value chart for money activity set can be used in many ways! Here are instructions for one option:
- Download and print the resource, choosing which version of the mat you would like students to use. (Pro Tip: Print them on cardstock and laminate for longevity.)
- Give each student the money place value chart of your choice and the sheet of money manipulatives.
- Direct students to cut out the currency. (Alternatively, use real coins.)
- Demonstrate representing a decimal with the “money.” For example, to represent 0.42, you would place four dimes in the tenths place and two pennies in the hundredths place.
