A Narrative Template Set With Many Options

Learners are not one size fits all, and neither is this resource! Our narrative template pack comes with three story maps and three narrative templates so you can choose which format best fits the needs of your students.

This resource includes the following narrative template worksheets:

  • “Beginning, middle, end” version
  • “Setting and character” focus version
  • “Setting and character” focus with arrows version

And the following story map templates:

  • “Beginning, middle, end” version
  • “Problem and solution” version
  • “Problem, solution, conclusion” version

Due to its versatility, this narrative template set can be used with students of many different grades and ability levels.

Using Our Writing Planning Sheet Set

Looking at this resource, you may wonder, “What’s with the Story Maps?”

Although this is a narrative template resource at heart, story maps are included as well so students can practice filling out the details of a well-known story before they venture out to complete a piece of writing of their own. Scaffolding is key!

Here are some great mentor texts that you could use with the story maps:

  • “Owl Moon” by Jane Yolen
  • “Smoky Night” by Eve Bunting
  • “The Relatives Came” by Cynthia Rylant
  • “Come on, Rain!” by Karen Hesse
  • “Fireflies” by Julie Brinkloe

You could also encourage students to tell each other stories orally so they can practice filling out these templates. Your students can get to know each other while they learn!
