Edible Science Experiments Make Learning Fun!

Every teacher knows one of the best ways to engage students is through their stomachs! The moment a snack is brought into a potential lesson, every kid perks up and prepares for a fun and tasty learning experience. Hands-on edible science experiments turn abstract ideas into real-life experiences that engage all the senses. They are perfect for reinforcing key concepts like matter, the five senses, and scientific observation, so we’re excited to help you teach (and feed) your students a new lesson on the observable properties of matter.

Scientific Snacks – An Edible Food Science Experiment!

This Printable Edible Science Lab Activity invites kids to investigate the observable properties of matter using five different types of crackers! In this fun and easy activity, students become young scientists, examining crackers for key physical properties like texture, color, size, and shape. They’ll use their senses to observe and record details about each cracker, comparing how they look, feel and taste!

This edible science experiment helps students practice classifying matter while enjoying a snack! The resource file includes the following:

  • Teacher/Student Instruction Guide with Material List
  • Observable Properties of Matter Reference Sheet
  • Observation Recording Sheet
  • Experiment Reflection Sheet
