6th Grade Math Games

Are you looking for a pre-algebra game that strengthens your students’ understanding of how to solve one-step equations with addition and subtraction? This board game will encourage students to solve one-step equations with the following:

  • Whole numbers
  • Decimals
  • Fractions

Each player chooses a game piece. One player will roll the number cube to determine how many spaces to move. Once the player lands on a space, they will look to see if they have landed on an image.

  • If players land on a dinosaur skull, they lose their next turn.
  • If they land on a T-Rex, they move forward 2 spaces.
  • If they land on a bone, they move backward 1 space.
  • If the space is blank, no action is necessary.

Once movement is settled, a player must draw a card from the stack. If they answer correctly, they remain in their current position. If the answer is incorrect, the player will choose a second card and try again. The player must return to their previous spot if their second chance answer is wrong.

The player who gets to the finish line on the board first wins!

Through this activity, students will show they can determine the value of each variable in an addition or subtraction equation.
