The Perfect Classroom Community Building Activity!
Are you on the hunt for a new activity to help bring your students together into a stronger classroom community? Maybe it’s the beginning of a new year, or you might be halfway through, and your students need a refresher to help them power through the rest of the year. Regardless of the reason, we’ve got the perfect little activity to help your students see each other as a family and strive to uplift each other every day.
Make an ‘Our Class is a Family Flipbook’
This printable template is a fun way to help your students show what it means to be a classroom family and how it can change the classroom environment. It is perfect for pairing with a read-aloud, such as Our Class is a Family by Shannon Olsen. To create this fun school-shaped flipbook, students will cut apart and complete a series of draw and write prompts to show what they can do to make their classroom more like home and their classmates more like their family members. Some thought-provoking prompts included are:
- My class is a family because,,,
- I am unique because…
- The best thing about my class is…
- I can make my classroom more like home by…
Once complete, students can colour and cut apart the flipbook pieces, then layer and staple them to form a fun house-shaped booklet to read and share with their classmates.
