Match fractions, decimals, and percentages with this printable math activity.
Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages
Have your students been working to understand the meaning of percentages? Do they understand the relationship between percentages, fractions, and decimals? Teach Starter has a match-up activity ready for you if you are looking for an activity to help strengthen this math skill!
To play, print and cut out the cards. Ask students to look at each card’s fraction, decimal, percentage, or visual model. A completed set has 3 cards. This includes a visual model, percentage, and a fraction or decimal equivalent. Students can record their answers on the provided recording sheet.
Students will practice relating fractions, decimals, and percents through this activity. Students will also demonstrate an understanding of how to represent percentages with a 10×10 grid model.
Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding
A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.
In addition to individual student work time, use this percentages match-up game to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.
If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:
🆘 Support Struggling Students
For students who need a bit of support, limit the number of cards required for a match. For example, students could match just 2 cards, the visual model and the percentage.
➕ Challenge Fast Finishers
If there are students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to think of different ways to represent the percentage with a visual model.
🔔 Bell Ringer Activity
Project a card for your students to see as soon as they enter the classroom. Have students write or draw a corresponding model, fraction, or percentage on a piece of paper or in their notebooks. Collect the papers or discuss the answers as a group.
👯 Find Your Match
Provide each student in your class with one of the cards. Challenge the students to find the other 2 students with a matching model, fraction, or percentage. For an extra challenge, make the activity a race, or ask the students to complete the task in silence!
