Explore Real-Life Examples of Perseverance

Louisa has set herself a goal to read a new book every week.

After a month, she forgets her goal and stops reading.

Is Louisa showing perseverance or not?

Every day of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not, we are making decisions about whether to persevere with the goals we have set for ourselves. Some of these goals are significant, such as saving money for a particular expense item. Others are much less important, such as persisting to the very end with a book we are finding difficult to read!

So too are our students facing these same types of decisions in relation to their personal goals. They must decide whether to continue or walk away when times get tough. It is in these situations where the skill of persevering can be highly valuable to our students.

This set of 16 perseverance task cards has been created by a dedicated team of educators to help your students explore real-life situations where the skill of perseverance is required. The students are required to read the scenario on the card, then decide whether the child in the scenario is showing perseverance or not. The situations are those that the students will relate to, such as wanting to improve their grades, save for a coveted item or overcome a bad habit.
