Our Place Value Review Game Engages Students

Looking for a place value review game to get your students moving while they review place value concepts? We have the perfect resource for you! The “Place Value Prowl” will have your students traveling the room searching for the place value that matches their digit.

This place value review game includes:

  • “Place Value Prowl” teaching slides
  • Place value labels
  • Digit cards for numbers 0 – 9
  • Play instructions

This game is easy to set up and is a great way to review place value before tackling other subjects like rounding, expanded form, and large number operations.

Instructions

  1. Hang the place value labels up around the room.
  2. Give each student a digit card matching one of the digits in the number displayed on the teaching slide.
  3. Students travel to the place value label that matches the place value their digit is inhabiting on the number displayed.

Place Value Games for 4th Graders

Gamifying your math lessons is a great way to ensure participation and engagement. Here are more ideas for some fun place value games for 4th graders:

  • Place Value Bingo: Like traditional BINGO, but with a place value twist. We have a few on our site, check one of them out below!
  • Mystery Number: One student thinks of a number and gives place value clues about its digits (e.g., “My number is odd and has a 5 in the thousands place and an 8 in the ten thousands place.”) Their partner tries to guess their number.
  • Place Value Card Battle: Using a deck of cards, students draw six cards and create the largest number possible. The player with the highest number wins that round.
