How to Plot Points on the Coordinate Plane

Students who are new to this concept or struggling students may benefit from a clear set of directions to plot points on the coordinate plane. We’ve got you covered!

1. Start at the origin, where the two number lines cross. This point is (0,0).
2. Move left or right along the horizontal line, the x-axis, based on the first number in your coordinate pair.
3. Now move up or down the y line based on the second number in your coordinate pair.
4. Draw a dot at the intersection you end up at to represent your coordinate pair.
