Engage students with preposition bingo, a fun game where they listen, identify prepositions in sentences, and cover them on their board.
Friendly Competition with Preposition Bingo!
Understanding prepositions can be tricky for young learners, but preposition bingo turns grammar practice into an engaging game. This resource helps students recognize and identify prepositions in context as they listen to sentences read aloud.
To play, distribute one bingo game board to each student and a set of counters to cover the game board spaces. Read out one of the 24 sentence cards to the students and encourage them to identify the preposition. Once students have done this, they need to look for the preposition on their bingo card and cover it with a counter. The first student to cover a complete row of five squares is the winner!
The download includes:
- Teacher instructions
- 32 Bingo game boards
- 24 calling cards
The file can be accessed as either an easy-print PDF or as an editable Google Slides file.
By actively participating in the game, students reinforce their understanding of prepositions while improving their listening skills.
Fun Variations for This Prepositions Bingo Game
Looking to spice up this prepositions bingo game? Here are some fun variations that you might like to try with your students:
- Partner Bingo – Students work in pairs, taking turns reading the sentences to each other rather than having the teacher do it. This encourages peer interaction and helps improve reading fluency.
- Earn the Win – After a student gets a bingo, have them use each preposition they covered in a new sentence. This adds an extra challenge and makes the student really earn their win!
- Full House – Instead of ending the game after one row has been achieved, extend the game so that students must cover their entire board to win the game. This makes sure that students are exposed to a wider range of prepositions.
This bingo game makes learning prepositions more exciting and memorable. It is perfect for whole-class activities, small-groups sessions or literacy centers.
