Community Helpers — Preschool and Primary Activities

What are some of the ways you have your primary students show their understanding of economic concepts? Well, we have an excellent resource for you! This printable community helpers booklet is the perfect way to review or introduce community helpers to your young scholars or to celebrate Labor Day in the classroom.

To complete this mini-book, complete sentences to name different community helpers based on their service. They can then draw a picture representing that community helper in the space provided. In addition, two pages are included that guide students through identifying the tools or resources they use to provide a service to the community.

Through this activity, students will be able to answer the following questions?

  • What is a community helper?
  • What are different jobs that help the community?
  • Who are the helpers in my community?

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Economics lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this mini-book to enhance learning through small groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

  • Help students who need support by reading the lines aloud and encouraging students to spell phonetically to write the names of the different helpers.
  • For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to make lists or draw pictures of other helpers they are familiar with and share them with the class.

🚀 Encourage Your Fast Finishers

  • Provide your students with community helper books to read and learn more about the helpers in the community.
  • Have them make a poster or draw picture of community workers.
  • Challenge them to make a community helpers list to share with the class, or turn it into an anchor chart!
