Use these push and pull cut and paste worksheets when exploring forces and motion in your science lessons.
Push and Pull Cut and Paste Worksheets for Elementary Students
Are you looking for an age-appropriate resource to teach your students about push and pull forces that also encourages the use of fine motor skills such as cutting and gluing? Look no further than Teach Starter’s set of push and pull cut and paste worksheets!
These push and pull cut and paste worksheets have been designed by our experienced teacher team to familiarize your students with push and pull forces and how they are applied in real-world situations. It consists of three pages, each with slightly different instructions. These directions are outlined below:
- Page 1 – In this worksheet, students cut out the pictures and glue them into the “push” or “pull” row of the table provided.
- Page 2 – In this worksheet, students must identify and cut out only the pictures where a push force is being applied. Once they have glued these into the box provided, they must draw and write about another push force example of their own choosing.
- Page 3 – In this worksheet, students must identify and cut out only the pictures where a pull force is being applied. Once they have glued these into the box provided, they must draw and write about another pull force example of their own choosing.
Answer sheets are also provided in the download.
Some of the everyday scenarios involving the direction of movement included in these worksheets are:
- Playing tug of war
- Walking the dog
- Washing hands
- Changing the television channel
- Mowing the lawn
Answer sheets for both pages are provided in the download.
These push and pull cut and paste worksheets download as an easy-print PDF or an editable Google Slides digital document, making them a versatile inclusion to any unit of work on forces and motion. Not only will your students be exercising and strengthening the muscles in their hands as they cut the images and paste them in place, but they will also be adding to their knowledge of push and pull forces and how they act on everyday objects.
Differentiate These Push and Pull Worksheets
With any teaching resource, it is important to differentiate the content provided to cater to the individual learning needs of the students in your class. Here are some strategies you might like to use to differentiate these push and pull cut and paste worksheets:
- Comprehension Check – Before the students commence the worksheet, check that they understand what each picture on the worksheet is depicting. This simple step could avoid a lot of confusion once the students have already started the task!
- Use Sentence Starters – Provide sentence starters or fill-in-the-blank statements to guide students in explaining their choices. For instance, “I placed this in the push table because…”, or “I know this is a pull because I can see…”.
- Capitalize on Student Interest – Challenge more capable students to create a list of equipment they use when taking part in their favorite hobby, then have them explain whether a push or pull force (or both) is required to make this equipment work.
