Relative Adverbs Board Game

Teach your students to both identify and to use relative adverbs with this colorful and fast-paced board game! Students will identify if the relative adverb is modifying to show time, place or reason, and move their game piece accordingly. 

This activity will help your students to understand what relative adverbs are, and how they are used, which will enable them to use them effectively in their future writing.

Print on cardstock for added durability and longevity. Place all pieces in a folder or large envelope for easy access. 

How to Play This Adverbs Board Game

To play, students will:

  • Take a card
  • Read the sentence
  • Move their game piece – one space if the relative adverb is HOW, two spaces if the relative adverb is WHEN, three spaces if the relative adverb is WHY, and go back one space if there is not relative adverb in the sentence. 
  • Play continues in a clockwise direction.
  • The first one to the finish space wins!
