Ice Cream in a Bag Recipe & Science Experiment for Upper Grades

Through this exciting experiment, students will learn how removing heat from the liquid mixture causes it to change from a liquid to a solid state, illustrating the concepts of freezing and temperature change. With a few simple materials, some time, and a whole lot of shaking, your students can observe a ‘sweet’ change in state as their ice cream goes from liquid to solid!

This activity requires students to follow a multi-step process to identify variables and controls, create a testing setup, and use the materials given to make and observe how removing heat causes a liquid ice cream mixture to solidify. We have included the following in your resource download:
