Fraction Models

To build up their understanding of different fractions, students should demonstrate their ability to represent fractions in multiple ways.

In this worksheet, students are given a particular fraction and must represent it in the following ways:

  • dividing and coloring a section of a shape (circles and rectangles)
  • representing the fraction on a number line
  • coloring a collection of images

This two-page worksheet includes an example question for students to follow and answer pages to make marking fast and easy!

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

For students who need some extension, edit the Google Slides version of this worksheet to include different fraction types, including mixed numbers and improper fractions. Have students create their own representations on a separate piece of paper for another student to interpret and write the fraction for.

Students who need extra support can use concrete materials to assist with the collections representation as well as posters such as our Representations of Fractions Poster to help assist with the completion of the worksheet.
