Explore Rhyming Couplet Poems
Rhyming couplet poems are poems that include sets of two lines, where the last word of the first line rhymes with the last word of the second line. Here is a simple example of a rhyming couplet poem:
There once was a bat,
Living in my brother’s hat.
My mom ran away in fear,
Which made my brother cheer.
It finally flew away,
But not until May.

- Rhyme Selection – Students choose one rhyming word for each color. These are the rhyming couplets that will be used to create the color poem.
- Rhyming Sentences – Students write a rhyming sentence for each color using the rhyming couplets selected. For example: Brown, brown, the buildings of our town.
- Create a Color Poem – Students list all of their color rhyming sentences to create a rhyming couplet color poem.
