This year, we’re excited to help you engage and excite your students with a variety of brand-new materials to give them practice with identifying and classifying rocks–including sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks.

Rock Detectives Task Cards – Finding Clues & Classifying Rocks Made Fun!

This printable resource is designed to help your students practice identifying and classifying igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. However, completing the task is no walk in the park!

Our Rock Detectives Classifying Task Cards require students to read and analyze descriptive text and data about a given rock sample, including details about its visual appearance and how or where it was formed. From there, students will need to use the clues found in the included information to determine if the rock is sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic.

This resource download includes 24 Classifying Rocks detective cards, a printable recording sheet, and an answer key to make grading easy!
