Rounding Games 3rd Grade and 4th Grade Students Will Enjoy

Who knew rounding numbers could be fun? We did! Gamify your math lessons with rounding games 3rd grade students and above will love. In our game “Rounding Match-Up,” students will play a memory-style game while rounding numbers to a variety of place values. Two versions of this game are provided, making differentiation easy.

This resource includes the following:

  • Instructions
  • Ten level 1 question and answer cards (numbers up to ten thousand)
  • Ten level 2 question and answer cards (numbers up to a hundred million)
  • Recording sheets
  • Answer keys

This and other rounding games 3rd grade students may play are great for centers, fast finishers, and indoor recess. This resource can also be used as an independent practice activity.

We recommend printing the cards in this resource on cardstock and laminating them for longevity.

How to Play This Rounding Whole Numbers Game

There are many ways to use this differentiated resource. Students can play individually or in partners, and they can select the first level of difficulty, the second level, or play both levels together for a longer game. Here are students instructions for two variations of this rounding whole numbers game:

Variation 1: Individual Practice

  1. Choose which card set you would like to use. Shuffle the question cards and the answer cards.
  2. Lay all the cards face-up on the table.
  3. Match each question card with the correct answer card.
  4. Record your matches on the provided recording sheet.
  5. Check your answers using the answer key.

Variation 2: Partner Activity

  1. Choose the card set you will use and shuffle the question cards and answer cards separately.
  2. Lay the cards face-down on the table, with the question cards in one area and the answer cards in another.
  3. Play a “Memory” style game by taking turns flipping one card from each pile. If the question and answer match, keep the pair and record the match on the provided recording sheet. If they do not, flip them back over.
  4. The player with the most card pairs at the end wins!
