Here’s The Scoop… This Retell Writing Template is Mint!

If you have been teaching your students how to give a retell using the SCOOP acronym. This fun writing template is the perfect activity to practice their knowledge of retelling using each category. In the shape of an ice cream, once completed, these templates will also serve as a fantastic classroom display created by the students and used as a visual reminder of the different elements. The elements in each scoop of ice cream include:

  • Setting
  • Characters
  • Order of Events
  • Oh no!
  • Problem solved

The best bit about this template is you can differentiate it by having your students draw or write the different elements.

Teaching Retell Enhances Comprehension

Teaching your students how to retell a story successfully requires your students to engage with the material actively. By retelling a story or text, they must understand the content well enough to extract and convey its key points accurately. This only deepens their comprehension skills.

Retelling a story can also develop your students’ vocabulary and language skills as they are encouraged to use their words to convey information.
